Manchester by the Sea is a tough film to watch. It’s partly because of the central tragic character, Lee. Casey Affleck (like always) embodies that character so well. It literally hurts to watch him go through the motions of life, and even trying to be there for his nephew as he carries this amazing burden on his shoulders. The film doesn’t have a “message”, which I liked. It just shows how people live. How people matter even if you can’t always “count on them”. It’s non-judgmental look at small-town life.
